GPX files are simple digital tracks that show the exact course for a run, ride, swim or full race.
It can take a little effort to figure out where these files are stored on event website and not all events publish them. The good news is that most major triathlon events make the job easy because they publish route maps right on their official websites. Ironman events are the clearest example, so let us walk through how to locate their GPX files.
Where to Find GPX Files on the Ironman Website
Almost every Ironman race page includes full route maps for the swim, bike and run. These maps usually allow you to download the GPX files.
Here is a simple way to find them:
Step One
Navigate to the Ironman or triathlon website and use the top navigation to choose the region that matches your race. For example Europe, Oceania or North America.
Step Two
Select your race from the list, click through until you reach the main race page.
Step Three
Scroll until you see a section called Race Details or Course Overview. Many races split this into Swim Course, Bike Course and Run Course. Each of these sections usually contains an interactive map.
